Welcome to Fajã dos Padres

Despite being almost inaccessible by land, Faja dos Padres history dates back to the beginning of Madeira's colonization.

Over the ages, it was summer residence of the Jesuits, elected property in the production of the famous Madeira wine, stage for corsair adventures, granary of the surrounding villages.

Today it is with great pleasure that we invite you to visit this small island within the island of Madeira, which is so dear and special to us.

The travel entails approximately 250 metros, experienced in a 4-minute downward travel, along the coast of the huge cliff down to Fajã dos Padres. Through the lift’s panoramic window visitors can enjoy each minute of the descent; admire the southern coast of Madeira all the way to Ponta do Sol, the small bay of Fajã which gets nearer every second or, simply, enjoy the view of the sea as far as the sight beholds.

The Fajã dos Padres lift distances 28.5 km from the airport, about 10km from Funchal, and less than 6 km from Ribeira Brava.

We had an amazing week at FDP. It was extremely relaxing which was just what we were after. The food is really good wholesome food cooked from ingredients either picked from the farm or caught from the sea so is very fresh. The staff will bend over backwards to help you and the whole place has its own microclimate - when it was raining on the island it was still glorious sun at Faja Dos Padre...
